My babies 1st hair cut

At 19 months young Hudson has had his 1st hair cut. It was quite an easy experience actually. We went to Hair 4 kids, which is a local salon near my house. It's totally dedicated to juniors. Hudson sat in a car, with a Wiggles cape, he was given an Elmo phone & Mickey Mouse Club House was playing right in front of him. Too easy.

So he went from this....(Not that I style him like this on a daily basis!)

To this....

Doesn't he really now look like a boy! A little gel spike & all!

Christmas Stockings

I received a parcel the other day from thedizzydaisy which I am thrilled about. A gorgeous fat quarter bundle of Michael Miller fabrics. I bought then to make Hudson his own personalised Christmas stocking, the colours are perfect and was such a great buy.

The bundle included;

*Lime Holiday Forest

*Lime Tick Tock

*Santa Play Dot

*Retro Ric Rac

*Red Clown Stripe

*Holiday Hostess

*Retro Geometrics

*Retro Holiday Skaters

I made a couple of stocking very early this year for my nephews.

.

They are very time consuming as the front is all appliqued and quilted but it's my little mans first real Christmas stocking so how can I resit.
I look forward to showing the finished product.

I am pregnant!!

My blog has been so negelected to to a wonderful reason.
I am 12 half weeks pregnant!!!
My absense has been due to me never feeling so damn sick in my life. To be honest I am still not feeling 100% but I can feel improvement on the way. Yes light at the end of the nauseating tunnel. Somedays I just couldn't move, I have never been physicall sick, just constant nausea has been taking over. I was never this sick with Hudson for memory. If I could sleep all day & all night I would, but for those amazing women who have more than one child know it's impossible. Some days I would look at Hudson & think, please go and amuse yourself while mummy lies on this couch.
Yep fat chance of that happening.
I have hardly blogged, created product, contributed to forums, uploaded onto Etsy, read blogs and feel truly out of the loop. I hope during next week I can start catching up a bit so apologies to those I usually say hi to.
Doing nothing has had one positive....It's given me time to reasses my current business, whats working and whats not, and also think about what & how much I will take on when I have 2 terrors. Any advice in this area will be taken with open arms.
I will be making a few products changes but nothing major, but more than anything looking forward to reconnecting in the blog sphere again.
Speak again soon,
Ky xo

New womens business venture

My poor old blog has been neglected terrible lately, and there isn't much I can do about it.
But I am venturing back.
I have been so busy working in collaboration with 8 other women.
We call ourselves "mums biz", we are a passionate, imaginative and talented group of mums have come together to present an amazing range of products for your children - aged 0 to 8 years.
We meet monthly meeting/catch up (yes food & wine involved) to discuss ideas, issues we may be having with our business, help each other out with solutions, ideas, suppliers and anything else related.

My absence has to be blamed due to a work in progress with these girls. We have all started a 'Party Plan' business together based on the concept "We bring the boutique to you". My role has been helping in the design of the catalogue which will be a 43 page glossy brochure featuring everything we all make. So far we have had huge interested amongst all of out immediate circle of friends, as well as other mums wanting to become "Party Representatives'. It's going to be a fabulous opportunity for us to all have a retail presence without a shop front and dependant on online sales.
I will be posting more about this very soon and would love to introduce you to all of these amazing women. If you get a chance please check out the website to see all of the great brands involved, and please follow our blog for amazing product releases, and news.

A whole new way of sitting in a pram

As I had the Yarraville Market this weekend, the pram was out of the car and has been inside, due me loading the boot up. This has resulted in Hudson having a ball pushing it around the house, even though his direction is a little off. He has also discovered he can pull it over and find a brand new way of sitting in it. Who would have thought he would be so content sitting in it when normally he hates being constricted to it.
Once again of course he's happy it's on his terms!!

Circus Series - Set of 3 prints

I love the whole circus theme, it really does take you into another world, the feeling of excitement, the magic, the tricks, clowns, animals, and of course the sound of the ring master. I look forward to when Hudson is old enough to sit through a whole show so I can watch is face change with the expressions of amazement, anticipation and sheer joy.
I am offering my artwork in mini series, consisting of the larger 8x10" and a set of three 4x6" options. I posted Monday the first of my circus series and today I complete it by posting the co-ordinating set of three 4x6" designs.

My first Halloween contribution

If it wasn't for Etsy I probably wouldn't really think twice about Halloween.
It does however look like such a fun time of year, for everyone I would assume not just the kiddies. The spookiness, the costumes, trick or treating the neighbours, the face paint, walking with your friends house to house.
My parents never really let me trick or treat hence maybe that's why I have never really thought much of it. I will admit I always got very cranky with them over it.
I am curious though, what's it all about? The history? I think I best have a little look into it.
I have made one of my bags especially for Halloween, it can be used for anything and will carry lots of lollies for those trick or treaters preparing themself for spooks and adventures.

My Dad's 60th Birthday is comming

It's that time of year for me again. Birthdays, birthdays, birthdays!!
There is a special one this year in particular - my dad's 60th.
I am really excited as I believe it's such a fantastic milestone. I am having his party at my house as I have lots of space. My dilemma is....What do I buy him?
I have brainstormed this over and over alone and with everyone and anyone. Everytime somebody gives me a suggestion he either has it or has done it. One thing suggestion that has stuck in my mind, 'an experience'. So I jumped on Red Balloon this morning and came across a scenic flight in a Tiger Moth Plane. This is the plane below, I think this could be perfect anything with some history behind it dad loves. I started to giggle at considering buying him this, as maybe he could be 'Biggles" for the day.

What do you think? I would love to know if anyone else has done given something like this before? I am guessing it would be an absolute blast.

Some new product.

I have been busy over the weekend making some new items to add to my store, and also for the market this Saturday in Yarraville. I was waiting on some fabric which finally arrived, YAY!!
I have quite a lot of new things so I look forward to uploading them one by one. I love brand new prints and new colours, it's the sign of a new season, and I think my below selections are so summery. My target is to have everything ready by October & I think I am going to do it.
Below are some new bibs which are 'circus' inspired dots and animals, and some burp cloths to match.

I will also be adding a couple of new products so stay tuned.

A question?

Wow September has been out of control for me, and this last week has been a shocker.
No beautiful craft images today, just a question to my fellow mum bloggers.
OK my question?
Being a first time mother of my angel Hudson, is it normal to catch their colds so frequently? I tell you what my days before Hudson, I prided myself on my fitness, and how I NEVER got a cold. I always managed to miss the colds & sniffles even though I worked in an office environment. This winter my goodness me. Hudson has had had a couple of sniffles, & I got them too, but this last one he got has hit me a beauty. I have got as well as my husband. I feel like we completely share EVERYTHING!!
It's driving me mad and also makes a very hectic and lethargic household. I am just starting to feel the fog lift, after 4-5 days of feeling so under the weather.
Somebody please tell me now spring is here it will be all sunshine and blue skies!!

My WishList Wednesday Has Finally Come True

I have been wishing for a new computer for so long it's ridiculous, actually painful. I have been using a lap top for the last 3yrs and it drives me nuts. For those who know and have read before, I love to draw, Adobe Illustrator is my passion, but always found it challenging as depending on the angle of the screen it altered my colours. Recently I have been doing a lot of freelance illustration work, which is great, (which has my craft/sewing has suffering boo hoo...) So I decided to take the punt and upgrade, and this is the result. I don't understand all of the techno computer specifications of it, all I care to know is that it's now has a super fast hard drive with a glossy 19" flat desk top screen.
Ah Bliss......

I guess wish enough, sometimes and it will come true!

I hope your wishes came today.

Starting Art with Hudson

OK a new week, and a week where I thought it's time to get some colour in Hudson's hand. I mean I love to draw, why shouldn't he??
So I decided to give Hudson some of my pencils, not my super good Derwent kind, but some that good but I won't be heart broken over if a lead was smashed. I thought I'll see how these go and then invest in some jumbo crayons just for him. So I had his table and chair ready, some paper, a red, orange and blue pencil. I sat with him initially & drew shapes, patterns, told him the colours of they rainbow and so on, not that he seemed to interested. I had to get up for a minute and this is what I came back to, believe me I was gone just a few minutes.
Yep the paper was gone, clearly the table was more interesting to draw on, and obviously the pen looked tasty. My boy became blue!!! It's amazing what can happen within a couple of minutes, thank god he didn't find the walls THIS TIME!!

And the weekend just went......

My weekend was a blur.....
It started with the very sad new my Uncle Bill passed away Friday afternoon with a long battle with cancer. It had been and awful experience for my cousins, the pain and heartache they have experience I could never imagine. He is free from pain now and in a peaceful place now.
R.I.P uncle Bill.
*********************************************************************************
Saturday I had the Yarraville Market which I thoroughly enjoyed. I didn't even take my camera, damn it, so I can post any photo's of the day. So instead I will show these 3 ladies fabulous work.

I sat opposite Susannah from Susannah Tucker, and look at her stunning photography all day.
I also caught up with Dana from Twiglet.

A Parcel From Pepperberry and Co

Last week I bought the cutest little ballerina purse from Sandra designer and creator of Pepperberry. Well it arrived today & I could not be more thrilled. My current purse has had a much needed card clean out, and instead of being discarded they now have a new home. Also a great idea to keep my business cards on hand too. How cute is it? She has some other stunning finds in her shop so venture across as I am sure you will find something you just have to have.

I received my set from 'Lillyella'

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I had won a beautiful necklace and earring set from Lillyella.
It was a name game & everyone had the opportunity to pick a name you thought would be suitable for her new design. I picked the winning name "Vintage Bloom" , & couldn't believe I won. Yesterday I received the set I had won in the silver and burgundy colour combination I selected.
It's even more beautiful than I already thought. I am so thrilled.
.

Thanks again Nicole

Yarraville Market Saturday 5th September

I am trying a new market this Saturday, Yarraville Market. I am looking forward to it as I have had good reports from it. I am taking a real punt here as I am attending without even going to it beforehand to check it out. My main reason is, is that I usually attend Sisters Market, but I need a change.
As you can imagine, like many of us who attend markets, I am rushing madly trying to get organised. This to do and cross off my check list start with;
1. Cut out iron on transfers, old ones and newbies.
2. Print new swing tickets.
3. Stock up on business cards.
4. Finish making some of my new spring items.
5. Put magnets on bookmarks.
6. Update stock taken list.
7. Double check EVERYTHING!!
8. Put on a happy face & enjoy myself.
I hope whoever lives on that side of town comes along, and don't forget to come by and say hello. Hope to see you there :)

NEW!! ROBOT EVERYWHERE BAG

The screen printing has been done and a new design developed. I had never done any screen printing before and to be honest found it a challenge. Like every new challenge we undertake as artists, we usually find things are not always as easy as they look. It's very humbling actually and makes me respect those who are brilliant at something whether it be screen printing, quilting, to graphic design. I had many trials, and a lot more errors than I would like to admit. Little did I realise the importance of 'warming' the silk screen up up bit, as in do a few layers of screening so the paint warms and flows through the screen smoothly. My terminology may be a little technically challenged, so apologies to those experience screen printers possibly reading this.
So the design is done and the new "Everywhere and Everything Bag" in the Robot and Spring Time Bird, are launched. I am really happy with the pattern of my new bag as it is fully adjustable at the strap, just tie it according to the length you desire. The new Robot Bag is now posted, and Sprint Time Bird will be up shortly.
I have some more ideas for these so stay posted.

Whats your perfect Sunday?

What is your perfect Sunday like? Every one's idea is different, some like to relax, others participate in sport, shopping, pursue a new hobby, seeing a movie, having a massage, or reading. What do I think? Just the thought of having some peace and quiet having a few cuppa's, and catching up with my closest friends to talk endlessly all day would be perfect. Being a mum can make that a little challenging at times. I thought this beautiful print by Amy Giacomelli sum up my prefect Sunday.

Kate Cebrana libe in Melbourne

I was lucky enough to go and see Kate Cebrano last night, she was performing in Melbourne, at the Palms in the Casino. Wow what a show!! I have been a fan of Kate's as long as I can remember. My very first Kate experience was buying her "Brave" album on vinyl, from my pocket money, back then music not only an obsession, but was big dollars for me.
I always remember being as delicate as I could be when placing the needle onto the record, accidentally goodness knows what would have happened should ever I scratch it.
The last 3 years or so I would wait for each January to come around and watch her perform on a summers night at the Melbourne Zoo as part of their amazing twilight entertainment. I thought it was time to step it up, see the real deal, and that being her amazing voice in all it's power.......live.
I was not let down either. She put on a great show, all based on the journey of her career. As well as her songs there was video imagery highlighting important aspects of her career with even a little personal snippets thrown in. She was funny and beautiful, and such an inspiring woman.
If you are even a slight fan do yourself a favour go and see her, or check out her website for when she hits the road in your state. She was supported by Carl Risely (Oz Idol) and he was great as well. A real show stopper the whole night.

A couple of CD's I had signed in January this year.

NEW!! Huggies cover preview

I have just started a few new baby accessory patterns to coincide with some new spring items for September. There have been many trials, errors, and mock ups which have then been pulled apart & adjusted again and again.
On this particular item a quick brief....I have always wanted to cover the plastic compact of the Huggies baby wipes. I considered buying one already covered but patterns were adhered to it, which undoubtedly look fantastic. But I always thought it would be best to have one I could take on & off & most importantly wash. We all know these things end up accidentally on the floor anywhere, in mouths, and without a doubt end up with marks on them.
So I have made a cover in beautiful 100% quilting cotton (Moda basics), that can be taken on and off to wash. Problem solved. I am yet to post it up in my Etsy shop or other website as I am just tidying up a few loose ends. They will all be available in beautiful fresh colours, this one I am showing you is in buttercup, with a dinosaur or two. I would love some feedback. What do you think?

Monday, August 24, 2009

Finally, we're both looking in the same direction.

I just have to show you this photo. No nothing amazing except it's the first one in months where Hudson & I are both looking in the camera, & look half decent. As a first time mother I have never realised how hard it is to have a photo with your child, & hope you're looking in the same direction. Usually when we try to have a photo together, Hudson is touching my face, has a frown on his face, trying to get down, looking in another direction, sooking, is cranky, or looking elsewhere as there is something more important for him to stare at. Or it's me, my eyes are shut, I am ducking from Hudson's free swinging arms, or I have stone face through holding a smile for ages waiting for Hudson to look in the right direction. Boy...Who said working with kids was easy?

Thank goodness Cadbury is Comming Back

I was watching ACA tonight & for those who didn't see it, there was a segment on how Cadbury was returning to it's original formula. You know for ages I have been wondering why the good ol' family block was tasting different, almost flavourless, greasy & plastic like. It was revealed that they stopped using 26% coco butter & replaced it with 21% palm oil. YUK!!! My taste buds were right along with the rest of the country. I am one of those people when I want to indulge I was to make all those goodness calories worth it. I dumped Cadbury as they had done their dash with me, and went straight to Toblerone which is still heaven in itself, but there is nothing like that famous glass & a half of milk. I only wonder now, when will the real deal be back on the shelves? My only assumption would be that the block is 250gm rather than the skimpy 200gm? If anyone else knows please let me know. In making my taste buds water I check out some Etsians who make the worlds favourite indulgence mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Small things entertain growing minds

I don't think I need to explain much here, my photo's say it all. This was one of the funniest things I have witnessed in ages, mind you my mum was panic stricken. Through tears of laughter I managed to compose myself to snap away.

Made a quilt and it worked!!

I was going through my fabric stock pile which I know many of us have, or should I say hoard!
Well I had lots of bits and pieces, not enough to make anything significant, yet large enough to do something. I have ALWAYS wanted to quilt, it just looks so dreamy some of the finished 'artworks' as I call them out there. Anyway I had a go & I did it. The finishing of the binding was a challenge, but after lots of googling I got through it. It's also in my shop. I have a couple more on the go, I will keep you posted on those.
Here it is, a mini one, I didn't want the task too daunting.

I WON A NECKLACE FROM LILLYELLA

What a great surprise I was just about to post something else, which I will get to soon.
As I always do I run a quick scan over my favourite blogs & I saw Lillyella's (Nicole) winner for her July name game. I knew the name I entered in there with many others was in the final judging poll, but I never thought I would WIN!!
The designer behind Lillyella name is Nicole & I have been following her blog ever since she was featured in "Quit your day job" on the Etsy's storque. Her jewelry is stunning, and her blog is always full of interesting things to read, giveaways, fashion to see, crafting projects, and recipes to eat.
The name that I entered which was selected is "Vintage Bloom" & here is what I won.
A matching necklace & earring set.

I have decided on the burgundy colour.

Make sure to check her Etsy shop out, and the new "Vintage Bloom Earrings and Necklace" will be there soon when she returns from her break.

Time flies

Well it's the middle of August already can you believe it? Time flies doesn't it?
Things to do, start thinking about, fathers day is around the corner, spring is nearly here, before we know it summer will be knocking on our door & I won't scare anybody saying Christmas is coming.
I am already thinking & doing plenty about a few of the above RIGHT now.
Fathers Day - I have started some new designs for my bookmarks that are specifically for dad. Great gifts especially from the grand kiddies as well as mums and dads of course. They will be themed as well as personalised. Pop you favourite photo's on them they will be a winner. But I will let you know more about those in the next day or so.
Spring/Summer - Well as Aussie craftsters we need to have our plan down for a new season of fresh new colours and creations. We have to also incorporate and consider some new 'fall' items for our friend on the other side of the globe. Here is a sneak preview at some of my new spring colours coming very soon.

Finally Christmas - What's you creative plan? My plan is on paper THAT'S IT!!
I have a ideas of things consisting of the very important tree, some angels, a reindeer, and of course santa's helpers. It's just a matter of piecing them all together so they collaborate.
Fun Fun Fun, I love it!!

Tasty Tuesday

MMM what's on the menu tonight, I had some diced lamb in the freezer, that will do. What shall I do with it? I had a search around and went back to my easy and fuss free cookbooks.
I have the "Symply too good to be true" series, there are 5 of them & you can buy them in the newsagent. They aren't very cool or funky looking but just easy low fat and very healthy 'family' meals. Truly they are great you should check them out.
Anyway the decision was Minted lamb kebabs. I haven't done these before but I am sure they will be great mmmmmmmmmm

The wheels are in motion

I have finalised 2 of my designs I am going to use as part of my new collection coming out.
I have so many ideas and it's hard to narrow them down, which as many of us know can be paralysing. I guess work with what I am feeling right now, and more importantly don't get ahead of myself this is a new venture I am diving in to.
I drew them by hand first, with lots of erasing, more sketching and more erasing, then scanned them, & redrew them in illustrator. Boy it was time consuming, but it's all good.
I have started cutting out screens which is the next phase, I will keep you posted.
Some spring time birds

Some fierce robots

Clutch Giveaway.....

Hi everyone I hope you all had a great weekend.
I just found a great giveaway on Spearmint Baby's blog, Mod Dot Textiles are giving away one their stunning clutches. They are great & there is definitely a design to suit everyone.
This is the one I love.

Nearly Market Time Again

Market mayhem strikes again.
This Saturday I will be at Sisters Market and as always looking forward to it.
Looking forward to it for 2 reasons, the first as I will be having a bit of a sale on the day. I still have some things I would like to clear to make room for my new 'screen printed' items. Gee that's making it very official and now making me very accountable.
The second reason is because by the time the next market comes around, I will have pretty much a whole new collection to show off. Gee I am excited.
This week I have done a stock take, repriced some items, made lots of new bookmarks, cut out some more transfers and have made 3 new friends to go along with the 2 that have been sitting in my work place.
I would love the Melbourne locals to come by and say hi.
Hope to see you there :)
