New Artwork - Flutter Your Fairy Wings

I have been working some new & VERY girly prints. With my daughter getting older, a mere 3yrs old, she is really starting to have her own opinions on what she loves. I hear all the times how little girls loves fairies, unicorns & princesses, but nothing prepared me for how much she really loves them.

Almost an obsession! Experiencing this everyday has started to influence in my design process.

So here is the first illustration completed design, Flutter Your Fairy Wings. I have quite a few other concepts sketched & ready to go & be drawn into something hopefully magical. I have to admit wholeheartedly, it's actually been a lot of fun drawing this & as you can tell I am still love my hand drawn lettering.

While I was away in Queensland I sat quiet;y for an hour & just sketched away. With the weather so warm & divine drew this.

Last night I finally sat down & put some colour into it, my favourite process playing around with colour combinations. It truly is endless.

Rediscovering Hand Lettering Typography

I was asked a couple of days ago did I draw a lot at school. The answer was not a great deal. I did a little graphics in high school, which was quite architect & technical based & was completely hand draw. Nothing truly inspiring. My parents I have mentioned before, were far from artistic so it was never encouraged.

Talking about this with a friend actually brought back some memories which I had completely forgotten about. In primary school I was very into decorating my school books, like most if us. One thing that came as clear as day was the joy I had with creating letters by hand. I loved creating my name in hand drawn fonts. When we had assignments the heading was always drawn like bubbles, or straight & square. Inside the letters were always patterns. I always drew spot, stripes, birds, flowers, hearts & stars around the letters. The I loved to create borders. I am finding it quite interesting how I had somehow forgotten my joy for this, I think it's because when I did start drawing seriously again it was all clothes due to my job, & now children's icons. 

Obviously my subconscious knew how much I enjoyed it due to the current pieces I have created quite recently here, here, here & here. I have been quite drawn to it lately, even a little obsessed, it's all about finding my unique style which I have been woking so hard, & I am really enjoying it. 

Again I find myself doodling away & have come up with these two in the last 48hours. They still need to be coloured, & I can see a lot of work has to be done.

It's been a lot of fund incorporating the letters with my own style. 

Lets see where it will go, I love the whole unknown part of this process.

New Print & Wall Decal Launch!!!!!

I am finally getting there, my new range is pretty much complete, it's just the slow task of editing photos & uploading everything to my shops. 

I have uploaded all of my new prints to Facebook, you can see the new album here. I have popped them on there specifically to have a launch sale! A celebration for the hours of drawing. 

Here is some of my new work below, but there is just so much more to see. It's a great opportunity to save some money & purchase for Christmas.

While you're there I have also just released my very first range of wall decals. This is super exciting as I have never ventured into anything like this before. I decided to do these as I get asked a lot if I create them to coordinate with my other products, being cushions & doorstops mostly. Again I have loaded them on to Facebook, I hope you like them, you can see them here. They are all printed on high quality vinyl & the colours are extraordinary, so bright and vivid. Here are just a couple to give you an idea of what to expect.

going design mad....

I have has a real obsession lately with my boys designs. A flood of designs flowing through my mind which started off as scratchy words on paper. I think I get a little over obsessed at times, as all I hear is time and time again, "THERE IS NOTHING FOR BOYS". Having a son myself, I understand but I also believe there is plenty out there for them, its just that there is a tonne of stuff for girls. So it drives me to create for all the little men out there.

After emptying my brain of inspiration, with lots of scratchy notes, I start to think about how I would like each design to look, jotting more notes down. With these initial thoughts I do lots of web surfing for inspiration, & I always go through the kids books to see if anything grabs my eye, in regards to themes. There are always lots of sticky notes with more notes. It's really important for me to do this initially as it has me thinking how I can adapt my inspiration into my own style.

NEW DESIGN......

One of my new designs is the solar system. I wanted all of the planets drawn clearly, and to fit all on a cushion, making them clear, concise and bright. is it OK to admit my first draft I had some of the planets in the wrong order!! Thank goodness for google.

I have started creating coordinating prints for all of my cushion designs. Some are going to be a typography style, some not. I am really loving myself a bit of typography, but my goal is to make them brighter, more colourful, more designed than just words. That's just how I am feeling, the prints need to be full of life and coordinating with the cushion. Not copying it, but becoming a version of it, belonging to another item.
